{"id":1911,"date":"2013-10-10T16:32:37","date_gmt":"2013-10-10T19:32:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/?p=1911"},"modified":"2024-11-10T10:40:57","modified_gmt":"2024-11-10T10:40:57","slug":"prospect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/?p=1911","title":{"rendered":"Prospect, Nova Scotia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/?p=2028\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prospect<\/a> is not too far from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/?p=1785\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peggy&#8217;s Cove<\/a>, but few tourists have even heard of it. It&#8217;s so scenic and untraveled we&#8217;ve actually considered moving here. It&#8217;s one place we visit every summer in Nova Scotia, as we have a <a href=\"http:\/\/microprojects.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">friend<\/a> from Ontario who has retired here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Prospect_Panorama2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1912\" alt=\"Prospect Village\" src=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Prospect_Panorama2.jpg\" width=\"3305\" height=\"384\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Although it&#8217;s off the radar for most tourists, it&#8217;s sufficiently close to Halifax to offer faster Internet speeds than most ISP&#8217;s in Toronto, so for us it&#8217;s perfect. This particular day in early August we get up before sunrise, just so we can watch the sun come up over the village. It&#8217;s so amazing to see the harbour and open Atlantic ocean so flat and peaceful, and at this time of day it&#8217;s heavenly.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/ProspectVillage403121.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5857\" alt=\"ProspectVillage40312\" src=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/ProspectVillage403121.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Before the sun breaks, it&#8217;s so still and a little dark &#8230; and oh so quiet. What a change from the big city. The houses are simple and well weathered, but in the early morning light they&#8217;re just stunning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/ProspectHouse41041.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1964\" alt=\"ProspectHouse4104\" src=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/ProspectHouse41041.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Being right on the edge of the Atlantic, Prospect gets its fair share of harsh weather. That combined with lack of very much topsoil makes it hard for larger plants and trees to take hold.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Prospect41741.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1954\" alt=\"Prospect4174\" src=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Prospect41741.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s ocean, rocks and small plants, many of which depend on the ocean fog to bring them moisture, as there&#8217;s little soil to grow in. Below, we see dew on the vegetation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/ProspectPlants42581.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1951\" alt=\"ProspectPlants4258\" src=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/ProspectPlants42581.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/?p=2028\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">High Head Trai<\/a>l&#8221; is a hiking trail that begins in the village and follows the coast for miles and comes out at Hages Lane. It&#8217;s a very ambitious hike that will take 3 or 4 hours if you&#8217;re like us and stop to photograph.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/ProspectTrail42821.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1963\" alt=\"ProspectTrail4282\" src=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/ProspectTrail42821.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/ProspectRock41071.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1961\" alt=\"ProspectRock4107\" src=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/ProspectRock41071.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Prospect42021.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1953\" alt=\"Prospect4202\" src=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/Prospect42021.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As you leave the village on &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitingnovascotia.com\/?p=2028\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">High Head Trail<\/a>&#8221; all that is left is you, the ocean and the rocks.
